Milledgeville, GA, February 2020 - Zschimmer & Schwarz USA is pleased to announce the addition of the following Lexolube Products to the EU Ecolabel Lubricant Substance Classification list (LuSC-list) based on updated 2019 criteria:

  • Lexolube 3G-310
  • Lexolube 3N-310
  • Lexolube 3Q-310
  • Lexolube 4N-415
  • Lexolube B-109
  • Lexolube FG-22 HX1
  • Lexolube CLG-460
  • Lexolube CG-3000
  • Lexolube CQ-3000

The EU Ecolabel identifies products that have a reduced environmental impact throughout their life cycle, from the extraction of raw material to production, use and dispoal. The LuSC-list comprises lubricant substances that meet stringent biodegradation, bioaccumulation, aquatic toxicity, and sustainability requirements. By using LuSC-list components, formulators can ensure that their finished lubricant products meet EU Ecolabel criteria, minimizing the registration timeline and associated expenses. For VGP purposes, products formulated from EU Ecolabel substances are considered Environmentally Acceptable Lubricants (EALs), which are required by the current US Vessel General Permit (VGP).

"The addition of these products to the LuSC-list continues to demonstrate that Zschimmer & Schwarz is committed to providing safe and sustainable products to our global customer base." said Doug Placek, Global Director Lubricants Division. "These additions build upon our existing certifications to further enhance the Zschimmer & Schwarz portfolio including food-safe and environmentally preferred Lexolube Products."

Zschimmer & Schwarz Announces Opening of Esterification Plant in Ivey, GA

The addition of the Esterification Plant in Ivey, GA expands domestic synthetic ester capacity at Zschimmer & Schwarz. Incorporating a modular design, the Ivey plant will be able to accomodate future growth.

Milledgeville, GA, January 2019 - Zschimmer & Schwarz USA is pleased to announce the opening of its greenfield synthetic ester plant in Ivey, Georgia. Following a decade of strong growth, Zschimmer & Schwarz USA built the Ivey plant to expand production beyond the headquarters factory in Milledgeville, GA. Production at Ivey began in December 2018 and the first two reactors will be fully operational by March 2019. Upon completion of phase one, the Ivey plant will increase ZSUS domestic synthetic ester capacity by 45 million pounds.

The Ivey plant was built from the ground up to manufacture lubricant grade synthetic esters. It incorporates years of ester expertise and features an innovative, proprietary QEC Process to deliver unparalleled quality, efficiency and consistency. In addition, Ivey incorporates a modular design to accommodate future growth.

Bill Burton, CEO of Zschimmer & Schwarz, Inc. states, "We are very excited about the opening of the Ivey plant. After years of sustained growth, Ivey is necessary to support our current customer base and to expand into new areas. Not only does Ivey add much needed capacity, it is built using a state-of-the-art modular design that allows us to quickly integrate additional reactors as the need arises. Ivey will allow Zschimmer & Schwarz, Inc. to build on its position as a supplier of high quality ester based specialty chemicals."

Synthetic esters are a key ingredient for formulating high performance synthetic lubricants and metalworking fluids. Synthesized from organic alcohols and natural or synthetic fatty acids, synthetic esters are environmentally friendly lubricant basestocks that provide excellent lubricity and additive compatibility.

The manufacturing process and feedstock selection defines properties such as viscosity, volatility, stability, biodegradability and fire resistance. Our synthetic esters are formulated to provide the optimal fluid properties for the intended use. For example, some are engineered for outstanding oxidative and thermal stability for high temperature applications and others for low temperature applications such as refrigeration compressor lubricants.
